Hi, My name is Truman!
I am a Brindle Male Beagle / mutt Dog. I am 9 and weigh 34 pounds. I live in FALLS CHURCH, Virginia.
Hi ? My name is Truman and really, all I want, is someone to just gently stroke my ears. For you, life is complicated, but for me it?s simple.
I?m a 9-yr-old mutt (beagle mostly, boxer maybe) and I?ve got a lot of gas left in my tank. My vet says I?m ?as healthy as a horse,? which is some sort of joke because I?m not a horse. I?m neutered and all up-to-date on my vaccines.
I used to be pretty active in my youth, but now I think I?m great for someone looking for a change of pace in their life. If you don?t have any kids, I would love to meet you! (I get along with dogs, although I certainly prefer to be the center of attention.)
I enjoy sleeping in, long naps on the deck in the afternoon, maybe chasing a squirrel here or there, and playing with some chew toys at night. Take me to an open space and I love running after the birds and squirrels! Though I don?t do it as much any more now that I?m getting older? In the winter, I?m happy to just curl up on the side of your bed and wait for you to scratch my belly.
I?m smart ? my owners have been training me for years. I know all my basic commands: sit, no, down, off, stay. I?m pretty good with heel, it?s just that sometimes when I see another dog or a squirrel, I get kinda excited. What can I say, maybe I?ve got some terrier in me.
I?m dealing with a stressful situation and I?m hoping you can help me out. You see, about 6 months ago an ?invader? came into my house. My owners call it a ?baby.? And while they haven?t stopped loving me or anything, it?s just ? well, they just keep loving that baby. And I?m not too happy about this. Did you know babies are unpredictable? They yell and grab and frankly, I just don?t like that. I?m great with adults ? I?ve been around them all my life!
If you think you can help me, I?d love to meet you!

Truman’s Current Home Environment
The home has grown too big and too chaotic for Truman. Mostly, b/c of a newborn baby and two working parents, Truman doesn’t nearly get the attention that he needs.
We are fairly quiet homebodies so we spend a lot of time at home. Truman loves to be lazy indoors in the winter and outdoors in the summer. His peak energy is from about 5-7pm, when he is anxious for a walk or to play in the yard. We live in a SFH with a fenced-in back yard.
Truman’s Current Family:
We are animal lovers through and through and Truman has received a lot of love over the past 9 years of his life. With the addition of a newborn baby, however, combined with Truman slowing down in life, our family has had to make tough decisions.
Truman’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?
LOVES rawhide chews. Usually Truman eats 1 per day, after his evening meal. He gets a little whiny if he doesn’t get one.
He loves chew toys and toys with squeekers, mostly so that he can destroy the squeek.
He will play tug-of-war for a bit. He’s vocal (growls or barks during play time), but it is just his way — he’s talkative 🙂
Cute Truman Story:
Truman sometimes thinks he is a bigger man than he actually is. At his core, he is a sheepish little guy who wants nothing more than a nice, quiet place to curl up, a few table scraps, and gentle back scratch.
We used to walk Truman near an old church that had a small statue in the front, by the sidewalk. Truman would growl and sometimes bark as we approached the statue. I would cross the street with him so he wouldn’t do this, but one evening I walked him right up to the statue. He sniffed all around the statue as if it was another dog, his tail wagging frantically. Then, noticing it wasn’t, he whimpered toward me and the statue, as if to say: “Why doesn’t he sniff me back??”
We love retelling this story because it shows how Truman can come off as bossy or aggressive, but deep down he just wants some companionship.
Why is Truman Being Rehomed?
Because we have a 9-month-old and Truman does not seem to get along with the baby.
Truman’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:
A home without children.
Ideally, a home where he is the only dog, although he gets along fine with other dogs. (He prefers people)
Truman would work well in an environment where he can get outside (he LOVES to chase squirrels in our backyard and sunbathe on warm days)
