Hi, My name is Charley Dog!
If you are looking for a really nice dog to enjoy an active lifestyle with, I am THE ONE! I am a big boy at 80 pounds. I’m a mixed breed with Pointer and Red Tick Coon Hound in my background. I am just 18 months old and very healthy. I have been neutered, house broken, crate trained and am up to date on my shots. I am a “ready-to-own” dog!
I’m such a lucky dog to have been given a second chance for a happy life by my current owner. She rescued me from a shelter and has helped me grow from a scared, hopeless boy into the confident, loving and very joyful dog that I am today. I have undergone extensive training and behavior modification. I am good with cats and LOVE other dogs. I love nothing more than to frolic in the dog park chasing birds and playing keep-away with my dog friends. I also love to swim and play frisbee.
While it breaks her heart to part with me, she realizes that I need more activity and time than she can offer me. She is considering a move to New York City, and me going with her is not an option. She is very hopeful that I can find a home in the Denver area with a wonderful person or couple who will cherish me and continue to help bring me out of my shell.
Because of my history, I am afraid of children and a bit nervous around people I do not know. I am drawn to gentle, kind men, and would make a fantastic companion for a couple or single man who are active and enjoy getting out for a good walk or run each day. I’d very much love to be a “country dog”, as I so enjoy the open spaces. I would love to have some dog siblings to play with.
I will be rehomed with my supplies, which include a nice crate and a really great dog bed, as well as my handsome collar and vet records. My owner would love to keep in touch with me, and even visit me once in a while if it is OK with you.
Please offer me a home today. I can’t wait to wow you with wiggles and show you my dazzling doggie smile.

Charley Dog’s Personality
Charley is high energy and VERY social. He likes to chase flying birds, swim, play frisbee. He is quiet at home though wants companionship.
Charley Dog’s Current Home Environment
I live with my cat in a city. We have a yard. He really only enjoys the yard if he has company to play. He sleeps besides my bed on his bed.
Charley Dog’s Current Family:
It is just me and my cat.
Charley Dog’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?
We go to HUGE dog park; if its early he loves to chase low flying birds. he will run and run. He does not run away. He likes to swim and play chase with other dogs. He initiates TAG games. I take him to local park and play frisbee with a freind and he runs back and forth. I am teaching him to run along side of my bike. He does not do fetch more than 3 throws.
Cute Charley Dog Story:
Charley has the sweetest eyes and a very expressive face. When I saw him at the Boulder Shelter he asked me to give him a chance. He knows how to communicate. He is very loyal ad bonded very fast with myself and boyfriend. He was shut down at first and now I daily see him smile and see joy.
Why is Charley Dog Being Rehomed?
I live alone and Charley needs lots of exercise. In a city I need to drive 45-60 minutes each way to let him run free. Without my partner here he has very high energy needs and I pay dog hikers and dog play groups so I can work. I freelance and I need to possibly move to New York CIty which I have observed sucks for dogs. Charley minds kind men much better ad seems to act like my boyfriend and has gotten territorial of me though he is perfect with male dog walker. I have trained extensively and know Charley would do better in an active 2 person home as he bonds well with kind men.
Charley Dog’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:
2 person active home that includes their dog in their life. I have trained Charley to stay at home, but he really wants to be a companion.
I have trained him to accept my cat.
I have trained him all basic commands.
The home should not have kids as he seems to be afraid of kids.
He can be afraid of strangers, although he wants to go everywhere. He has fears of certain things ( not thunder though)
He is not overly excited about a yard.
He wants other dogs to live with.
Because of his past he needs an experienced and kind owner. He loves to learn! No shock collars or pinch collars.
He loves huskys, german shepherds and malamutes and snow.
He eats high protein, low carb as he is more mellow on this diet and herbs.
When I got Charley he was like a broken light bulb. He was sad, shut down scared of lots of things and people reaching for him. With alot of love and care and exposure. I have seen him grow into a lantern and chandelier. He is bright, healthy, loyal and he does have his issues. Because of his past I have trained him alot in positive training. Socialized him. Figured his best diet. Taught him manners.
