Hi, My name is Max!

I am a white, smooth double coat male Beagle/Blue Heeler mix dog. I am just 2 years ?4 months old and weigh 45 lbs. I live in Collinsville, MS.

I am about the cutest dog you will ever meet. I am a perennial ray of sunshine. To me, the glass is always half-full! I am well behaved and extremely well house trained. I love people and, despite being bigger than a Chihuahua, consider myself to be a lap dog.

My owners are very sad to have to find me a new home as they love me very much. They recently added a “small human” to our home, and that darned little thing makes me very nervous. He’s always grabbing at me and making lots of noise, and I just plain don’t like it. I would much prefer to be in a home with adults and/or older kids, 10 and up. I want to go back to being the center of attention!

I’ll be bringing all of my dog stuff with me. I am neutered, up to date on my shots and very healthy. I am “ready to own” dog.

Please offer me a home today. I can’t wait to wiggle my way into your heart. Let’s play fetch and look for birds together!

Your new best friend,

Max

Max’s Personality

Born on April Fools’ Day, he has always sought to live up to such high expectations. If a dog ever had a sense of humor, it’s Max. He is man’s best friend. He’s never met a stranger.
Max does have a beagle’s love of barking. He uses it in play, to alert his humans about birds, and whenever a situation makes him uncomfortable or nervous.
Max is a very smart dog. He has been impeccably house-trained since he was 3 months old.

Max’s Current Home Environment

Max is a member of our family. He enjoys sleeping in our bed. After a productive morning sniffing things and sunbathing in the fenced-in yard, he likes a long nap on the couch. We have visitors often, including older children, whom Max adores. He loves when new friends visit, and pines when they leave.

Max’s Current Family:

For as long as Max can remember, he’s shared his house with his human owners and a male miniature dachshund. Max was very happy with this arrangement. In March 2014, his owners welcomed a new addition to the family. Max was ok with this, until the tiny human started crawling, and then walking and talking. With a tiny human moving around, making all sorts of loud noises, then throwing things and touching Max’s stuff, Max is nervous nearly all the time. Max is the best dog an adult could have, and he loves his people very much. But he can’t relax and be the good dog he can be, not with a tiny human in the house. He deserves a quiet home with people who will enjoy his loving company.

Max’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?

Max likes long walks, playing tug of war, and chasing the birds in “his” yard. After a bit of active fun, Max loves to take a nap on the couch next to his humans. He signals to go out by tapping the door with his paw. He knows a few commands: sit, out, outside, go home. With a bit of training and a few treats, Max would love to learn fetch. He’s very interested in chasing the ball right now, but hasn’t quite managed to bring it back.

Cute Max Story:

We trained Max to sit in the usual manner. Lots of positive reinforcement through praise or treats. He earns his treats or monthly heartworm preventative by obeying the command “Sit!”. Although, Max doesn’t quite grasp cause and effect.
Whenever we run the bath, he sits down with a pleading expression. Whenever we brush his teeth, he sits longingly. Whenever we brush his coat, he sits desperately and firmly, as if the amazing accomplishment of sitting will forbear such miserable treatment. He has decided that it is the act of him sitting, not his obedience, that earns him praise and treats!

Why is Max Being Rehomed?

Max is increasingly annoyed by the activity and noise of our toddler. He has not bitten him, but barks and runs near him. We want to do what is best for both our loves, and find Max a peaceful home.

Max’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:

Max’s new home must have a fenced-in yard. He loves the outdoors, and needs more time exploring and sunbathing than a quick walk can provide. He also needs a quiet family, who will respect that crates, loud noises, bigger dogs, very young children, and anyone touching his feet make Max very nervous. If his family also takes him for a daily walk >15 minutes, they will find he can be the happiest dog in the whole world.
