If your best friend is itchy or have hot spots that seemed to appear they may be suffering from Pet Allergies. There are three main types of allergies?to look for in your pet: Atopy, Food Allergies and Contact Dermatitis.
Atopy allergies are the most common form of allergies in cats and dogs. Usually seasonal can be caused by ragweed in the Fall or tree pollen in the Spring. In the Winter when they spend more time indoors you pet may be allergic to dust mites.
- Constant licking of the side

Food Allergies make up about 10-15 percent of pet allergies with other allergies.
Symptoms may include:

- Itching around the face, anal, feet or trunk areas.

There are two types of contact dermatitis irritant and allergic. Allergic is when your pet becomes hypersensitive to certain substances in the environment. Repeated contact can cause the allergy. Common chemicals can be flea powders or collars, shampoos, grass and even material such as rubber or plastic. Irritant allergies can occur after first contact with chemicals, plants or fertilizers.
