Hi, I’m Nelly!

Nelly 5

I am a 3-year-old female hound ?mix. I am incredibly friendly, easy-going, and so playful. My sweet-natured demeanor pairs so well with my love for people. I love to be around people and I have never (not even once) shown any sort of aggression towards another person or animal. I love to go on walks and that is usually when my hound side comes out and I follow my nose towards anything and everything!?I am?healthy, UTD on shots,?and house-broken. Nelly’s Personality

Nelly is a sweet and loving dog who loves to be around people. She can get somewhat excited around new people but does not usually jump on them (she does need correction sometimes). She has not ever been aggressive towards people (I don’t think I have ever heard her even growl) since I have had her. Once she meets people, she tends to calm down quickly and has a very laid-back demeanor overall. Outdoors, she can sometimes be a challenge on a leash (being a hound, she tends to follow her nose). Indoors, she is very calm overall and prefers to find a comfortable spot to lay around.

Nelly has done very well with other dogs. She frequently attends “play camp”, giving her a chance to socialize. Also, I often bring her over to friends? houses who have dogs of a similar size and she does very well with them.

Nelly’s Current Home Environment

Nelly 2We are currently in a small, 2-bedroom duplex with a small yard (not fenced). While she has overall done well in this environment, I fell she would be best in a larger home with a fenced-in yard so that she can run freely.

Also, since I am the only person in the household, Nelly is alone a lot during weekdays. To keep her away from items that may cause her harm, or items that she might damage, Nelly is kept in the guest bedroom while I am away during the day (the only thing she has ever damaged is a TV remote control). She is well trained and I have no trouble getting her to go into her room when I leave.
I am also out of town a lot, requiring Nelly to be boarded quite often. I think she would benefit from a family that can give her more attention than I alone can provide.

Nelly’s Current Family:

It is only Nelly and myself in our household. I did have an older cat when I first got Nelly (which she ignored for the most part).

Nelly’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?

Nelly loves chew toys like Nylabones and rawhide rolls. Anything stuffed or plush normally doesn’t last long, so its best to stick with tough toys. On her veterinarian’s recommendation, she eats Science Diet adult formula.
As far as activities, she loves playing with other dogs and loves to go for walks (although, again, she can be challenging on a leash). She enjoys the water as long as she can touch bottom.

Why is Nelly Being Rehomed?

I believe Nelly would benefit from an environment where she is not left alone as frequently as my job necessitates. I think she would be great in a family environment, and preferably in a home with a fenced yard where she is able to run freely.

In addition, I plan to move out of Orlando in the next few months, and will be unable to have a dog in the living situation that I have planned. I am working to find Nelly a good home now so I am not in a rush to do so and am able to make the best decision for her.

Nelly’s?Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:

I believe Nelly would be best in a family environment, where caring people are present in the home more than I am able to be. I think she would do great with older children who have a lot of energy. She loves to play outside, and I think a fenced-in yard would be ideal for her.
