Hi, My name is Riley!

Golden Retriever Mix For Adoption Florida
I’m healthy, up to date on my shots, neutered and housetrained.
I will bring all of my doggie stuff with me!

Riley is such a great dog! He’s a gorgeous Golden Retriever mix, and his heart is as gold as his stunning coat. This healthy, neutered boy is a senior, but he is in great shape and quite active. He loves, loves, loves to fetch and would keep at it all day if he could. He’s a real sweetheart, and very devoted. He will follow his owner around like a shadow, and is happy doing anything you are doing, whether it’s watching TV, gardening, reading a good book or doing your household chores.Well behaved doesn’t begin to describe Riley. He is such a gentleman. He rarely barks, and if so, it is only for a short time. He is perfectly housetrained, does not jump or make a fool of himself when visitors come over, and he is always in a great mood. His sunny smile makes every day special.

Riley is very much loved by his current owner. She is absolutely heartbroken to have to find him a new home, but serious health and financial circumstances have made it impossible for her to provide Riley with the time, care, attention and exercise he craves. She is dearly hoping to find Riley a quiet home with a loving single person or couple who will cherish this sweet boy as much as she does. She would very much love to keep in touch with Riley and his new family.

Riley will be rehomed with a ton of supplies, and the sincere gratitude of his owner. Please open your heart and home to Riley today. He is a very good boy, and will provide you with years of love, laughter and companionship.

Riley’s Personality

People often remark ‘what a happy dog’! And handsome too! Ever wagging and looking for a scratch…
Riley is mellow and friendly with both friends and strangers. Even when I first brought him home, he was well behaved, never jumping or running off from the house or the car. He has never chewed anything, has always been housebroken with tremendous control and he’s quiet. Barking is short, coming on a knock at the door or a doorbell on TV. If someone does come to the door, he never pushes, trying to get out. He will however, bark a lot when he sees neighbor cats in the yard. I think it’s because he is protecting his sister Sasha! He is my shadow and follows me everywhere.
When we lived in Austin, we’d go to the dog park for ball and swimming and I saw that he didn’t really pay much attention to other dogs. I’ve never actually seen him ‘play’ with another dog. He is ‘person’ oriented. We’ve lived with 2 separate females, one older – one younger and he got along w/each just fine as long as balls and toys are not left laying around. He is possessive of toys and does not care to share.

Riley’s Current Home Environment

We have a small house & a big yard that we share with Sasha the cat (she loves Riley). He has a nice ‘cool’ bed on the floor in my room and the living room offers a comfy couch and chair, both with windows to look out of. I do have a long workday so unfortunately Riley is alone a lot. There are neighbors who have helped in a pinch but their schedules are quite varied so I can’t always count on them to be available. I always leave a light on and the radio playing whenever I am out. We sit out back each morning and I use a Chuckit to throw Riley’s ball. When I get home in the evening, we do it again. He takes more rest breaks now than before but if we stayed out there for hours, he’d keep at it.

Riley’s Current Family:

It’s just the 3 of us. (not married, no kids) We’ve been in our home for 3 years. Before that, when I moved back from Austin, we stayed with friends for a year (who had 3 Shih Tzus). I have a few dear friends but no family here in Florida. I have had some health issues recently and have had additional time away from home for therapy and doctor visits. It’s been stressful for both of us.

Riley’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?

Besides his tennis balls, Riley likes squeaky toys too although the squeakers don’t survive for long. He has never cared for rawhide bones although real ones are great! He loves tomatoes.
He likes to ride in the car, does fairly well out walking and of course, loves to swim.

Cute Riley Story:

When I was moving back to Florida, having just toured the French Quarter in the car; we were in downtown New Orleans, by the Convention Center near the water. Sitting at a stop light, trying to figure which way to go next..Riley jumps out the back window. Holy Cow! He was so excited…all those smells! But being Riley, he didn’t go anywhere. He turned around & stared at us in the car: ‘Hey, Ma! Lets go look around & smell everything’! I merely opened the door & politely asked him to return and he did, tongue lolling…

Why is Riley Being Rehomed?

First & foremost, I believe Riley deserves better. I want so much more for him than what I am able to give. He should be with someone who can give him the time and attention he craves. My current circumstances have put a huge damper on my attitude and ability. In addition, for both financial and health reasons, I will be putting my house up for sale very soon and expect to move to a small condo where dogs are not allowed.

Riley’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:

I think he would be happiest with a single person or couple. No children or male dogs.
He may need a little patience in his adjustment but with love, a good brushing and place to chase his ball, I think he’ll be happy. In our home, he is allowed on the furniture. He’ll sit with me watching TV at night and you can stroke & pet all night but he’s not a cuddler. He tends to be sensitive about his tummy and legs. He’ll sometimes get up on the bed when I turn in but doesn’t stay long. I think he gets too warm.
