Hi, we are Dante (black and white) and Virgil (all black)!

We are both very friendly and playful cats looking for a new home together if possible. Both of us are love to lap and play. We can be very independent like all cats are, but we also love attention. We would love to be adopted together as we have grown quite fond of each other, but it is not mandatory.

*Dante gets along with Virgil but can get bossy around other cats, so if you can only adopt one, please keep that in mind.

It may be a bit gimmicky, but this seems to be the only way I can get a decent shot of Virgil. It's difficult to get a good exposure of an all black cat.

Personality:

Dante is primarily a lap kitty. Every time I sit down he wants to crawl onto my lap and sleep. He follows me around, and if I snap my fingers he usually comes running to me. He also likes to cuddle with his pal Virgil, another cat that I have had for almost as long.

Dante is a bit of an alpha around other cats. He’s big and bossy, and it takes a long time for him to accept other cats. He can eventually adapt and be affectionate with other cats, but he would be better suited in a home with just him or just him and Virgil.

Virgil is also very affectionate and likes to lay on my lap, but he is generally more active and playful than Dante. He is sometimes too smart for his own good, as he will get into cabinets or drawers. He likes shoes (smelling them and laying on them), and he is very vocal, making cute meow noises and talking back to me.

Current Home Environment:

We live in a 2 bedroom apartment with. Our cats are not allowed outside except on the (screened) balcony. It’s mostly quiet here. Loud noises or sudden movements tend to scare them, and they will run and hide when visitors are around. It takes them a while to get used to strangers.

Current Family:

My wife and I got married and moved in together in January. We don’t have any kids. My wife also had two cats when we married. One passed away a few weeks ago, and the other is still with us.

Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?

Dante mostly likes to laze around, especially in laps. He also occasionally chases other cats around, and when he’s hyper he will sometimes go crazy and throw a ball or little mouse toy around. He loves scratching the cardboard scratching pad we have, and sometimes plays with the ball in the track that goes around it.

Virgil is more active. He explores a lot and sometimes gets into trouble. You might find him in a cabinet or a drawer or on top of the refrigerator.

Both of them like climbing and lounging on cat trees.

Why are they?Being Rehomed?

When my wife and I got married we each had two cats. I had Dante and Virgil, and she had Cookie and Babka. Unfortunately, Dante and Virgil have not adapted well to having the other cats around. They were both marking repeatedly, and nothing we have tried has stopped that behavior. We had to replace our couch, throw out blankets and cat beds, and repeatedly clean carpets and window sills. We just reached a point where we decided that it was too stressful to keep them. I have had them for 9 years, and I love them both, but it’s just not working out. They need a home where they can have all of the attention.

The?Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:

I think our ideal new home would be someone who could take both cats together with no other cats and give them lots of attention. I think they could do well as indoor/outdoor, although they have always been indoor only so far. Their home should be quiet without too many people to scare them, and with lots of individual attention.
